MUSEUM PRESENTATION

I wore my new "necklace" and everyone loved it!!!
They were a great bunch, and they really seemed to enjoy the whole thing...laughed and applauded my poems & stories, and had a good question/answer session afterwords. One I was particularly happy about was a husband who was home on leave from the war, who asked a couple of questions about my dolls and how I made them! I know his wife probably drug him there, but then he showed a real interest! Such a fun thing! Next month we have an Art Walk, where I will be demonstrating techniques, and a couple of ladies are all geared up for that.

HANGING ON MY EVERY WORD!

Just kidding..this was after I did my presentation.

MOMMIE'S HELPER

I have been asked to do a program at the Museum in Alamosa, with my dolls, poems and stories today: Valentine's Day. It's been quite a week. I have the whole story on my other blog: lunsfordland.blogspot.com (for any who might be interested)
Anyway, as I was putting together the dolls I wanted to use to take to the museum, my favorite little friend decided, he should help me...or maybe I misread his intentions, and he wanted to go with me...or maybe he was just being his usual get in-my face self, as he loves nothing more than getting into the middle of whatever I'm doing. But I do love him! Anyway, in spite of him I got things set, and am looking forward to doing my program....hope to get Hubby to take pics. We'll see.

AAARGH...IT'S HARD BEING BLONDE

I thought I put up the following post on my Blog...well I did, but unfortunately, I have 2 Blogs. One for my stuff and one to post things going on around our place, which I call "lunsfordland". My post about the Ugly Necklace went to lunsfordland. I was wondering why no one commented on it.........So today I tried to rectify the mistake, only to find my post went to the Monte Arts Council Blog. BUT finally, I have accomplished my mission....whew!
PLEASE look at my purty necklace, now on this Blog!

MISTAKES CAN BE FUN TOO!

Sad to say (sorta) I went off on a tangent without thoroughly reading the rules when I cam across an "Ugly Necklace" challenge, and decided it would be just the thing to get me perking in the New Year. So I dug out a bunch of "rejected" doll parts, and decided to make them the focal point of my masterpiece. First I made a base with a pocket in the back to hold stuff....I love to wear things around my neck to hold stuff, so I can use my hands for other things ( like talking). I'm calling this my Doll Parts Charm Necklace, because it's bits and pieces of heads, arms, legs, hands, etc. embellished with beads, fringe & bits of fabric, AND an eyeglass holder with an Indian maiden at the center bottom. My favorite part though was using a pair of "too long" arms at the top to go around my neck.
So, job completed, I went to the web site for the contest, and lo and behold, I had not read the rules! I had just perused the pictures from past entrants and jumped right in. So imagine my dismay when I found there were specific colors (and it was even one of my favorites: purple)...specific sizes, amounts of beads, and...well it matters not. Mine would not qualify for entry.
I must admit I still had a grand time putting it all together, AND it will not go to waste, as I will wear it. I can just hear the comments at EDAC this summer. :0} Also, I'll probably wear it next month when I do my program for the Museum in Alamosa...after all you must admit it is a show stopper.
Now lemme see...where are my purple beads

CHICKEN PURSE

Last spring we hatched a whole bunch of chicks in our incubator. One of my favorite friends had been wanting chickens so had her husband build a home and she adopted 4. Now we love our chickens, but mostly for their nice fresh golden eggs.Jane too loves the eggs, but has also become quite attached the chickens. During this wonderful Holiday season, I wanted to do something special for my special friend,so I created this wonderful Chicken Purse. (At least I think it's wonderful, and know she will love it.) Actually there are 2..the one I made while creating the pattern, then the one I made without all the original mistakes with the first one..which I will happily wear.
It had been a long time since I had put a zipper in anything, so that was a little bit of a bumper. With my ever expanding figure, knit fabrics & overlock sewing machines, there's not much need for zippers. Besides I'm at that stage in life, where most of my clothes are from the second hand stores...I save my sewing for making more important things.
CHICKEE needed a zipper however to keep things nice and secure inside. To make it easy to pull I added a little plastic egg...I know...whodduh thunk! Her wings are pockets large enough to hold a cell phone, etc. I'm calling her, a her, but actually I used a ceramic rooster I had for my model. This seemed appropriate, though since one of Jane's hens turned out to be a rooster, so she will appreciate the irony. Now that I have "perfected" the process I will have to write up the pattern for other chicken lovers!
Anyway, I am really looking forward to our Christmas gathering next week, when I can present her to Jane!!! HoHoHo

NATURE GIRL

FINALLY got pretty much the look I was looking for. Wanted her to be "impish" with large nose & mouth. After several hairdo's, the synthetic curly stuff , wound up being my choice...after all she's trucking around all over the place, so who has time to keep their hair all combed and neat. Her garland is green chenille's, with dried flowers & leaves, and one little butterfly in front, which was made of 2 pieces of fabric, fused together, with a wire inside to hold shape. Since I wanted her to be able to stand alone, I gave her some nice big feet and leather sandals which could easily hold her full figured bod. I liked the "woodsie" look of her dress, but wanted to fancy things up a bit, so made a top of tie dye print cotton with gold lines, then lined it with a floral print. The front is "beaded" with little frogs and turtles. I had gotten one of those deals on line with about 100 pieces of such stuff....moons, stars, flowers, butterflies, etc. They are made of plastic (no doubt from China) and colors were kinda icky, so I dipped them in acrylic paint: green mixed with gold...much better.
My original idea (and aren't they all?) was to have her holding a small child. But changed my mind on that..then I tried a bunny, and a mouse, but finally decided a nice little frog would be great...goes along with the turtles & frogs on her dress. Also since they are often an indication of things going amiss on our planet, it seemed appropriate. Besides I think froggies are cute...and this Girl is rather on the cutish side! Anyway, since her hands are articulated, I can still put something different if I want to later. But for now she's done. However, as an after thought, I have decided to call her Nature Girl.
It just seems more appropriate for her (at least that's what she told me).
